Good Things, Bad Things
Medicine...
Good: Without many modern discoveries and medical intervention, many people would not be alive today. Diseases like diphtheria and polio used to kill off children. Childbirth killed many women. Men died from infections sustained from injuries in wars or what have you. Diabetes, cancer and heart attacks were all imminent death sentences.
Bad things about medicine: It's no longer "only the strong" or the best of the best who survive and reproduce. It is expensive to support our burgeoning population.
Shopping:
Good: It's quite amazing the items available to us now. Things from far away countries, food from grocery stores, television programs, lightning fast communications,
Bad: We've completely forgotten about our own sustainability, and most of us wouldn't have a clue if we suddenly had to provide for ourselves. Not only that, but many shop themselves into debt and out of space in their homes. We can get caught up in competing with others as to who has the most and the best "things." We go into debt with our abundant credit cards.
Travel: Good: We can go anywhere in the world that we want.
Travel: Bad: We sometimes come back with diseases and/or parasites from foreign countries, and we are often in debt for our trips.
Leisure Time:
Good: we have many leisure time activities available to us. Sports, Dance, travel, computers and television for example
Bad: we don't go to church anymore, and somehow we do less and less as a family unit. There is an emptiness in our worlds that wasn't experienced in the past. We have more leisure time, but less meaningful time, is the way I would sum it up.
Work:
Good: There are all kinds of jobs out there, and work is empowering.
Bad: Much of the work force is sedentary, making for an overweight and out of shape population.
