Birthday Party

Image
Yes Peeps, I attended the 96th birthday of one of our locals.  A former drinker, he was chock full of witty stories.  He stated that at one time, he and some cronies used to come every day to the Legion to drink.  He said they'd get so drunk they couldn't remember their own names. The party was pretty crowded actually.  Roberta and I had decorated in the morning.  She was the perfect hostess in the afternoon . At some point a party of 3 came in to wish the birthday boy a Happy Day.  They told some interesting stories. This man (the 96 yr old, Richard is his name) had been in the Merchant Navy, and at one time, he was stationed out west, possibly BC.  He saw a doctor out there, a learned man, who said that he had to stop drinking or it would kill him, and furthermore, he needed a by-pass operation on his heart, or he'd be dead soon.  Richard left the office and bought a quart of rum, which he drank with gusto.  He declined to ...

Atlantic Lawbreaker

Greetings folks.  Note the title in this Blog.  Yes, yours truly broke the law this morning.   I was on my way to Mom's and I was pulled over for speeding.  Fucks sakes. I am glad of course, the police are ever vigilant against 65 year old drivers with perfect driving records, who are on their on their way to their mothers place.    I was apparently doing 71km in a 50 zone.  Who knew?  I wasn't pulled over though, until I was in the 60 zone.  In fact, when I made my return trip, I doubted how   he would have caught me in the 50 zone...it's just a short spurt/section of road, and he wasn't there when I passed him.   He was oncoming.   Radar maybe, buzzard eyes in the sky? Anyway, I'm disgusted, the ticket is $233.95 for crying out loud.  Try calling the cops here when you need help and see what you get, but god help you once you're behind the wheel of a car, as that seems to be the only part of the...

Saving - Reusing - Recycling

Image
What gets saved down here?  You name it, somebody is saving it. Stamps...Not sure where these go...ask Mom.  To the doctors office for some reason? eye glasses - to the local docs office to send to some foreign country or something like that. receipts from Valu Foods - these go to someone in the Anglican church, and I think after you have $1000 dollars worth of the things, "they" get one dollar off something.  Vague enough for ya? One can donate to local charities or people having yard sales for benevolent purposes.  Then you can buy the stuff  back, and donate them yet again.  It's kind of a continuing circle. Clothing of course, gets recycled.  It is either given to someone else, (could be another person or a charity), or sold in a yard sale on or Facebook or Kijiji (see horribly high prices for something purchased from Frenchys for a pittance.)  If totally unwearable, it is cut into rags.   Used by ...

End of Day or Tiger, Tiger, Burning Bright

Image
This is the last day of the 25th of April, 2014.  Who knew? Have I mentioned that I'm coming off my anti-depressant?  I still have a lot of supplies, but I would like to see how I do without them.  So far, so good.  I feel sharper.  Not extra bitchy, just sharper, and I seem to have more energy, which is surprising in itself, because I'm denying myself the prodigious amounts of sugar I usually consume.   Day 3 here folks on my very limited sugar regime.  (sugar on cereal/1/2 tsp with coffee)  I think I'm starting to twitch. I did laundry today, and I washed my bathroom area.  Floors, cupboard exteriors, sink, toilet.  Then I did some dust bunny clearing.   This evening I did something I haven't done in years.  I painted the bathroom.  Just ragging, and at this point, just the first coat, but there's only going to be one other "coat," or ragging, which would be the more apt term.  I went into Home Ha...

It is But to Bitch

Holy fuck.    I just got the estimate for insulation and roofing for my house.    Over $10,000 in total.      So I told them, never mind the insulation (which was way more expensive than I'd thought it would be), and just do the roof and gutters.   That alone comes to over $4000.   I'll have to try and do some insulation myself, maybe just in the basement.   I'll put on my best hunched over worker look, LOL.   Cuz let's not forget, in keeping with the other basements around here, it's "unspoiled."   It's actually better than a lot of basements, in that it has a newer concrete floor, with gutters to stop flooding.   But it's also not very high.   I have to bend over around beams. Right now I'm composing this note in Microsoft Word, because my Outlook account keeps screwing up.    I've lost emails I was writing because of this, the incompetent bastards.   JC, who've they got working on their tea...

eBay Suit

Image
I've was looking over the used church suits on ebay.   For the most part, they're disappointing.  Check out what's said about this one...they're asking $70 plus shipping and import duties, which comes to about $40.  So $110 in total.   CHAMPAGNE RED SUIT SKIRT . There are small imperfections all over suit and skirt minor stains hardly noticeable!  Needs to be dry cleaned my opinion!  PLEASE REFER TO MY PICTURES FOR THE STAINS. I know for sure there is two pen marks and from personal experience they come out . Some of the beads are detaching , minor cosmetics! May have a slight odor , but that's due to being in storage for a few months . MISSING ONE OF THE IN LINE BUTTONS WAAY REPLACEABLE ! Fur collared ( not real fur) Simple elegant church suit or wedding suit !  Yes, except for the stains, odors and missing buttons....and oh yes, detaching beads.  I should offer them $20, Ha. I wonder who wrote this up....a man?   T...

Frenchy's Find

Image
My sister Lory is  online at Frenchys.   For a Frenchy's Find.  I gave her this suit some time ago, although not 2007, as she has mentioned.  More like 2011.   http://www.guysfrenchys.com/get-involved/view-finds-and-winners

Weight Gain

Image
Went to try on a couple of outfits today, cuz I'm going out  to a meeting for a couple of hours.   Surprisingly, everything seemed tight.  LOL.  And yet I accidentally pulled off my jeans without undoing the zipper.  I'd like to say that I've lost that much weight, but the truth is, the pants have an elastic waistline at the back..  Lots of it. Good Lord....what is with this relentless weight gain? I have included here a couple of pictures here of vintage ads.  The kind of ads that promote weight gain.  Apparently I've perfected the secret without medication.  I remember that Wate-On product.  I wanted some.  I felt I was too skinny.  Hah!    Can you believe that, I wanted to be shorter and fatter?     I wouldn't mind weight gain if the fluff was distributed evenly.  But alas, it's not. I've been trying to eat less though, and have at least gotten to the point where I like the way I lo...

Around and About

Image
I've been very busy all this week, mostly to do with the Legion.  But on Thursday, I went to Digby to the Dentist.  I was somewhat apprehensive, having never had a crown done before.  Both of my health cards were used, but they had to snail mail them in, perhaps due to the Heartbleed Bug. This picture with my hand showing was when I tried to photograph, through my rearview mirror, a guy who was talking on his cell phone the whole time from Weymouth to Digby.  You likely can't see it clearly at all, as I've reduced the size of the picture and it will distort when you blow it up.  I was only going to use it in case of an accident, and also for my Greetz.  Tiny slices from life, so to speak. Mom spent the time that I was in Digby, with Edna.  They both enjoyed it, and I had a piece of Edna's Rapier pie, hers is the only one I like.  I hate the runny ones, so common around here it seems. Then Friday, Mom was at it again..she called the doc's office ...

Soap from Frenchy's

Image
It appears I am now completely Frenchified.   See these pictures?  $1.25 for each bar at Frenchy's the other day. I bought 4.  Kept 2 for myself, and gave 2 to JR.  One of the ones I kept for myself was for "troubled" skin.  I tried it on my face, and wow, it is really nice. These bars cost $3.98 each on a Caribbean site and catalogue...and that was almost 2 years ago, so they could be more expensive now.  Here's a link if you want to explore:  http://www.cajuncarib.com/ Yup...I now clothe myself in mostly Frenchy clothes,  and often sport clothes from other second hand stores. I do have sites I like to buy from on the net, but they're pricey compared to Frenchys.  Ah, fix the roof, or buy a church suit, that is the dilemma, LOL.  No dilemma, I have to fix the roof.  Good lord.  See picture: SL

Romance Novel Cliches

Image
http://www.likesbooks.com/blog/?p=6551 This article was obviously written by someone who reads romance novels relentlessly, and gets exasperated with the opinions of others who don't read that same material. It is so filled with biting sarcasm that I decided not to offer my admittedly limited opinion about romance novels. I used to read Gothic Romance as a teenager.  I don't even know if they still publish these things.  I tried Harlequin Romance novels, but just couldn't hack them. A friend who was a chronic reader of romance novels once gave me a pile of books to sell at a yard sale.  I read one of them, it had such an intriguing cover.  A beautiful and glamorously garbed beauty with long flowing red hair, lounging in a field of flowers, while a handsome man lay beside her with his big strong arms wrapped around her, virile chest muscles bulging. The cover was attractive and totally romanticized, as these stories are, and let me tell you, that book WAS p...
