Save the Rats (a satire)

 Recently two neighbors in the Minnow Lake area complained about the number of rats they'd noticed in their area.  They made the news.  Well, they've had their 15 minutes of fame, but what about the rats?


Rats are well known to mankind, but they are rarely seen in a good light.  However, they are living beings, and as such we must steward them.

If we take the time to know them, we will realize that they are gentle creatures, full of fun.  Due to their smaller size, they make good house pets, with minimal grooming and feeding needs. 

So, could you take a rat into your home?  Ask yourself these questions.

Do I have other pets (cats or dogs)?  If so, some revisions may be necessary.

Do I have or can I buy Tooth growth stunters?  Rats continue to grow their teeth all their lives.  While you can buy the commercial growth inhibitors, a good block of cement will take care of the matter, and is more cost effective.

Do I have a climate controlled environment for them?  True they can adapt to many conditions, but they live longer and look better, if in a moderate zone.

Food is not a worry, rats will eat anything.  They will act as your personal composting bin.  Good news!

Note: a specialized flea medication is required for rats, as their fleas can carry  Xenopsylla cheopis, a parasite which causes bubonic plague.    This type of flea is especially present in Oriental rats, so if you're not into exotic rat types, just a regular rat flea powder is effective.  

Note: While some pet enthusiasts have raised rats to be fighters, this type of activity is frowned upon, and similar to dog fighting,  should be eliminated.  This matter is currently  before the courts.

So, will you save the rats?  If you cannot adopt, can you spare a monetary amount for their upkeep?

Noise Rant

Hmmm...Is life getting more annoying, or am I just getting testier? Last night I drove over to Chapters to pick up a couple of books. The topic I was interested in, was Hoarding. I went to the Chapters computer and punched in a partial title of one I wanted, and sure enough, it said they had two in stock. Two in the "Well Being" section. So, over I trogged to said section. Only they don't have a section called directly by that name. But they do have a Sexual Health section, a Woman's Health section, and Ailments and Conditions section, an extended Self Help section, and also Addiction and Recovery sections. Oh yeah, and some sort of Psychological shit was in there too. I mean, this Well Being Area (I presumed it was the Well Being area, but then who could be sure) was fairly large. Saving - Reusing - Recycling

What gets saved down here?  You name it, somebody is saving it. Stamps...Not sure where these go...ask Mom.  To the doctors office for some reason? eye glasses - to the local docs office to send to some foreign country or something like that. receipts from Valu Foods - these go to someone in the Anglican church, and I think after you have $1000 dollars worth of the things, "they" get one dollar off something.  Vague enough for ya? One can donate to local charities or people having yard sales for benevolent purposes.  Then you can buy the stuff  back, and donate them yet again.  It's kind of a continuing circle. Clothing of course, gets recycled.  It is either given to someone else, (could be another person or a charity), or sold in a yard sale on or Facebook or Kijiji (see horribly high prices for something purchased from Frenchys for a pittance.)  If totally unwearable, it is cut into rags.   Used by ...
